History

“We invest and focus the attention on radiofrequency technology, especially on the chip on paper, instead than GSM technology, because this products are now in a maturity phase with no more room for new comer and no more gains.”

Gep S.p.A. was established in 1999 thanks to the far-seeing business venture made by Paolo Pepori, Chef Executive Officer that says: “We invest and focus the attention on radiofrequency technology, especially on the chip on paper, instead than GSM technology, because this products are now in a maturity phase with no more room for new comer and no more gains”.

This strategic and visionary thought launched Gep on a market of innovative applications, where products connect paper with microprocessors “the technology of the 500 years (the paper) with the one of the 500 days (the chip, IT)”, without neglecting the smart card market.

Geps headquarter and R&D center are based in Naples where the selection of significant technician is easier than anywhere else thanks to the high specialized Universities of Naples, Fisciano and Benevento.

Significant dates

2000 - Gep starts its activity, drawing up a first significant agreement with TSF (Tele Sistemi Ferroviari, a company owned by Finsiel and Ferrovie dello Stato S.p.A.) with which develops the MIT operating system, in its several evolutions.
With this project, Gep wins the tenders for the Local Public Transport in Varese, Trento, Pavia, and develops the ticketing system for LPT and FFSS (Ferrovie dello Stato).

July 2001- The turning point: Gep shows to the Minister Ruggero the possibility to manufacture paper documents containing radiofrequency microprocessors, as total guarantee of security and certification of the user.
The project is immediately presented at international level (together with Italian Ministries), and successively well accepted by ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization).

2003 - The Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato (IPZS) welcomes positively the project, then Gep develops the first passport with microprocessor compliant with the ISO 14443 standard and very close (considering the technology available at that time) to the current ICAO standards. The new "electronic" passport is submitted to the European Community, during the Italian chairmanship semester, on December 11, 2003.

February 2003 - In the meantime, Gep obtains the ISO 9001:2000 certification.

2005 - The year represents the milestone for the cooperation of Gep with ACI (Automobile Club d'Italia)

2006 - Gep lays the foundations to build in Arzano a plant for the manufacture of prelams for electronic documents and RFID devices, last link of an ambitious entrepreneurial growth.
